Waste Pro Relocates Recycling Facility After Tornado Destroys Building

Waste Pro has officially relocated its recycling facility to unincorporated Jefferson County, following the destruction of their previous location by the January 23rd EF3 tornado.

Often referred to as the "Silgan" building, located at 140 Goodrich Drive in Birmingham, the new space includes more than 87,000 square feet of operating space, situated on fourteen acres. The new facility will include a unique twin baling system, which involves two high-output balers operating simultaneously to process multiple streams of material. The new equipment will be capable of generating in excess of 7,500 tons of baled material per month.

Waste Pro will continue to focus on its community recycling and landfill diversion programs through partnerships with schools, municipalities, businesses, and community organizations.

"We are very excited about the new facility and the opportunity to get back to business as usual. Though the last few months have been a challenge, we pride ourselves on continuing to offer the level of service our customers have come to expect despite the damage we sustained," said Division Manager, George Nicholson. "We were very fortunate that the only loss we sustained was material and all of our staff was safe. We believe in doing whatever it takes to get the job done and the new facility has just made that a bit easier."
