St. Landry Parish in Louisiana debuted a landfill gas-to-fuel plant, developed by Cornerstone Environmental, which will supply up to 250 gasoline gallon equivalents (GGE) per day of BioCNG vehicle fuel. It is the first such facility in the state. The Parish recently began fueling 15 of its vehicles, including 10 sheriffs' cruisers. The Parish received grants and a state tax credit that reduced the capital cost by about 50 percent, and is also receiving ongoing renewable fuel credits.

Cornerstone Announces Installation of BioCNG(TM) Vehicle Fuel System at St Landry Parish, LA Solid Waste Disposal Landfill
Cornerstone Environmental Group, LLC announced that BioCNG, LLC (a wholly owned subsidiary of Cornerstone) commissioned a turnkey BioCNG™ vehicle fuel system at the St. Landry Parish Solid Waste Disposal Landfill, in Washington, LA. The system is the state's first compressed landfill gas fueling station. The BioCNG system will supply up to 250 gasoline gallon equivalents (GGE) per day of BioCNG vehicle fuel. The Parish recently began fueling vehicles, and will initially use the fuel to power 15 vehicles, including 10 sheriffs' vehicles.
BioCNG, LLC, along with fabricator Unison Solutions (Dubuque, Iowa) and equipment supplier Air & Gas Technologies, provided a BioCNG 50 conditioning skid, CNG fast fueling station, and CNG storage tanks. Services included engineering, fabrication, materials, installation, and startup. BioCNG, LLC provided site design, layout and permitting assistance to the Parish.
"The BioCNG system is the first truly economic use for small quantities of biogas," said Michael S. Michels, PE, manager of the BioCNG Division. "This system provides a simple technology for the Parish to produce their own vehicle fuel at a fraction of the cost of gasoline. The forward thinking of the Parish leaders and the sheriff's department is to be commended."
The Parish received grants and a state tax credit that reduced the capital cost by approximately 50 percent, and is also receiving ongoing renewable fuel credits. The BioCNG system accepts 50 to 200 scfm of biogas to produce 250 to 1,000 GGE of BioCNG per day and can be expanded if necessary. After cleaning and conditioning, BioCNG fuel meets SAE J 1616 (engine manufacturers' fuel specifications). It can be used directly or mixed with natural gas to produce a blended vehicle fuel.
