Republic Services, Inc. (Phoenix, AZ) announced plans to build a natural gas fueling station in Indianapolis and add 60 natural gas vehicles to its fleet there in 2012. Company will build natural gas fueling station in Indianapolis
Company will add 60 natural gas vehicles to Indianapolis fleet
Kevin Walbridge, executive vice president, operations for Republic Services, Inc. (NYSE: RSG) today announced that the Company planned to build a natural gas fueling station in Indianapolis and add 60 natural gas vehicles to its fleet there in 2012. Walbridge made the announcement at the Indiana Ports Authority summit in Indianapolis.
"Natural gas continues to play an increasingly important role in the U.S. transportation market," said Walbridge. "With its relatively low cost per gallon equivalent and its clean-burning properties, natural gas offers a favorable solution for fleet managers who are trying to manage operating costs."
Natural gas vehicles reduce greenhouse gas emissions almost 30 percent compared to diesel vehicles and are quieter than comparable diesels. Using natural gas instead of diesel fuel significantly decreases harmful emissions like nitrogen oxides and particulate matter.
Republic operates the sixth largest commercial fleet in the country. The Company has increased its focus on natural gas and is adding an increasing number of natural gas vehicles to its fleet each year. Currently, Republic operates more than 700 natural gas collection vehicles.
