Texas Disposal Systems' Growth Plans Take Off With New President

Austin, Texas. Former Southwest Airlines Co. Chief Operating Officer Jim Wimberly has been appointed Texas Disposal Systems' new President, according to an announcement by Texas Disposal Systems CEO and co-founder Bob Gregory. Gregory hailed the move as a sign of ongoing commitment to quality service and continuing growth for the multi-faceted company. Texas Disposal Systems and its affiliated companies provide a variety of services including solid waste collection and disposal, recycling services, landfill operations, organic compost products, site construction services, metal recycling, and an exotic game ranch/events facility.

"Jim is the ideal executive to help fulfill Texas Disposal Systems' strategic growth plan, while staying true to our company values and mission," Gregory said. "Like Southwest Airlines - which is consistently recognized as one of the world's most admired companies - Texas Disposal Systems believes business success is measured by more than just the bottom line. We make it our mission to keep as a priority the best interests of our customers, employees, neighbors, the community and the environment. Jim's values align precisely with ours, and he has the business acumen and leadership skills to help us act on our growth plan and continue to provide superior performance for our customers."

Wimberly, 56, retired from Southwest Airlines in 2008 after a distinguished career of more than two decades with the company. During his tenure as COO, the airline's revenue grew from $800 million to $9 billion. When he started with Southwest, the airline flew to 25 cities and employed 7,000 people; when he retired, Southwest flew to 64 cities and employed 33,000.

"I was drawn out of early retirement by the unique business model the Gregory brothers have built and the growth opportunities available to Texas Disposal Systems," Wimberly said. "I'm eager to take the lessons learned at Southwest - a company that changed industry standards - and apply them to Texas Disposal Systems and its affiliated companies."

Texas Disposal Systems was founded in 1977 by brothers Bob and Jim Gregory. Its award-winning landfill, compost and recycling operations are located adjacent to Austin and Creedmoor, Texas, on a 1,750 acre facility, which includes the corporate headquarters, an eco-industrial park and an exotic game ranch with entertainment facilities that serve as home for fifty different species of exotic animals. The company has over 500 employees and business operations in the Texas cities of Austin, Creedmoor, San Antonio, Bee Cave, Georgetown, San Marcos, San Angelo, Alpine, Sealy and Victoria.
