Fortistar acquires another landfill gas to energy project

White Plains, New York, Wednesday, April 1, 2009, Fortistar is pleased to announce that it has completed the purchase from a private developer of a newly constructed 3.2 MW landfill gas to energy project in Trinity Oaks, TX. Caterpillar Financial Services is providing debt for the acquisition. Jon Maurer, Managing Director of Fortistar , said, "This acquisition is a continuation of our plans to significantly expand our landfill gas portfolio."

Fortistar now has interests in nearly sixty green/ renewable projects generating the equivalent of over 370 MWs. This makes Fortistar one of the largest owners of landfill gas projects in the country with about 12% of operating landfill gas projects. Mark Comora, President, stated "Fortistar's objective is to significantly increase our green/ renewable energy capacity. Win-win relationships with our stakeholders are an important part of achieving this goal."

Fortistar LLC, headquartered in White Plains, NY, has a 25-year history of owning and managing power assets and currently has ownership stakes in over 60 projects in North America, with total generation capacity of over 3,000 MW including the pending acquisition of the Midland Cogeneration Venture project. Since inception, Fortistar has traditionally focused on cogeneration assets and will have ownership stakes in four such assets with total capacity of over 2,600 MW. Fortistar's growing renewable business currently focuses on landfill gas and biomass sectors. Fortistar Biomass Group owns and manages a portfolio of biomass power projects with a total capacity of over 165 megawatts. Collectively, the destruction of methane gas from Fortistar's renewable portfolio is now equivalent to destroying 9.5 million tons of carbon dioxide per year which, in turn, is equivalent to carbon dioxide emitted from 1.6 million cars, the production of 990 megawat ts of electricity from coal or the planting of 2.3 million acres of trees (the equivalent to an area equal to two-thirds the size of Connecticut).
