UNC-Chapel Hill to Purchase Landfill Gas to Power New Campus

UNC-Chapel Hill has struck a deal with host community Orange County to use methane gas from the county's landfill to help power the future Carolina North campus nearby and gain federal carbon credits for reducing pollution. The university could pay as much as $1.7 million over 20 to 30 years for the gas, assuming UNC follows through with the construction of a pipeline from the landfill to the Carolina North campus.
