Casella Waste Systems, Inc. Statement Regarding Maine Energy Recovery Company

Casella Waste Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CWST), a regional solid waste, recycling and resource management services company, today said that the company has been considering strategic options for its Maine Energy Recovery facility including a possible sale to Mattson Development LLC, a local Maine real estate development company. No agreements have yet been reached.

As part of the March 2007 waste handling agreement with the host community of Biddeford, Maine, the company agreed to discuss mutually beneficial options for the future of the facility with the community. Casella said it was open to all potential transactions that would create value for its stakeholders.
