Senator John Kerry Tours Ze-gen Facility in New Bedford
Senator Kerry's visit underscores Massachusetts' commitment to fostering the growth of renewable energy generation
Ze-gen, Inc., a clean energy company providing advanced gasification technology to convert waste into synthesis gas, generating low emissions electrical energy, today announced that Senator John Kerry (D-MA) has toured the company's operative demonstration facility in New Bedford, MA. Senator Kerry's visit included a tour of the facility and operational process accompanied by a discussion of the environmental and economic benefits of the technology.
"Ze-gen's cutting edge work is a great experiment in developing methods of solid waste disposal and alternative fuel production," said Senator Kerry. "After my tour of the Ze-gen facility I walked away inspired by the innovation and ingenuity harnessed right here in Massachusetts, and its potential at home and across the world."
Solid waste is a global problem with lasting effects. In the United States alone, over 350 million tons of municipal waste is generated each year, with 300 million tons ending up in landfills. Once there, this waste converts into methane, a harmful greenhouse gas which measures over 20 times the potency of carbon dioxide. Ze-gen offers an economically viable and environmentally superior alternative to traditional landfills and incineration processes through its patented technique to create synthesis gas, and thereby generate clean power using an enormous supply of free fuel.
"We welcome Senator Kerry to the Ze-gen facility and are very happy to give him a comprehensive facility tour," said Bill Davis, President and CEO of Ze-gen. "As the US Congress prepares to revisit the issue of renewable energy this winter, the timeliness of our technology is quite significant. We are pleased to have the Senator's support on this project."
About Ze-gen, Inc.
Ze-gen was founded in mid-2004 to develop and deploy advanced gasification technology which converts municipal waste streams into energy with virtually zero emissions. In addition to the environmental problems associated with conventional means of waste disposal, there is considerable energy content in ordinary waste streams such as construction and demolition debris and municipal solid waste. Industry data suggests that in the United States alone, over 50,000 megawatts of latent energy potential is unexploited every year as these waste streams are buried in landfills. Ze-gen is poised to be the market leader in the environmentally friendly re-purposing of these waste streams into renewable energy.
