The Environmental Industry Associations (EIA) is pleased to announce that Michael R. Paine, President of Paine's, Inc. (East Granby, Conn.) will become its' chairman on January 1, 2007. Mike has been on EIA's Board of Trustees for many years and has served as Chairman of the National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA), a subgroup within EIA, for the last three years. He also currently serves as NSWMA's Connecticut Chapter Chairman; a position he has held for nearly a decade.
"I plan to continue EIA's efforts to bring value to membership," said Paine. "At the end of the day, members should get something back from the association - a better way of doing business, a new safety video that improves operations, and enhanced networking opportunities for men, women and young leaders, just to name a few."
"Mike's dedication to our association and the industry make him a great choice to lead EIA," noted Bruce J. Parker, EIA's President and CEO. "Under Mike's leadership, NSWMA's membership has grown by more than 10 percent. Mike has been involved in virtually every major industry initiative over the past 20 years, and his steady, quiet leadership style has earned him respect by those within and outside the solid waste industry."
Paine started his career in the waste industry as a helper collecting garbage at the company his grandfather started in 1929. Over time, he became a truck driver, then a salesman, and now, with his wife Jean, brother Russell and sister-in-law Molly at his side, he is President of Paine's Incorporated.
He is Director Emeritus at the Chamber of Commerce in Simsbury, Connecticut, the town where he was born and still lives. He assists Simsbury Community Television and is a Vice President at the McLean Home Foundation; an organization that helps the less fortunate receive hospice care, make assisted living arrangements and an opportunity for the public to enjoy the outdoors at the Foundation's 4,000 acre wildlife refuge.
