North Carolina Solid Waste Regulator Recommends Higher Fees at Landfills

A North Carolina solid waste regulator recommended charging tipping fees at landfills to cover the cost of hiring more regulators and creating recommendations to overhaul the current solid waste management rules. State legislators had approved a one-year moratorium on new landfills allow the lawmakers on the Environmental Review Commission time to consider new solid waste management rules. Industry officials are concerned the recommendations will not be complete by January, when the state legislature returns for the 2007 session, and the moratorium will be extended.
