A new memorandum of understanding has been called a "win, win, win" that outlines Anne Arundel County's plans to supply energy in the form of methane gas from its Millersville landfill to the US Army's Fort Meade base. The deal would require the construction of a five-mile pipeline connecting the landfill and the base. Even still, the price should be significantly cheaper than that offered by a local utility. County officials estimate that 100,000 tons of trash is deposited at the 564-acre Millersville Landfill each year which currently holds about 12 million cubic yards of waste and generates tens of thousands of cubic feet of methane per day.
