Mayor Bloomberg's Ambitious Waste Plan Wins Victory in Court
Mayor Bloomberg's 20-year waste management plan scored a recent victory in court. Opponents of a proposed waste transfer station on 91st Street and the East River had sued saying that the location with its proximity to residential areas, posed a significant health hazard. New Orleans Landfill Expansion is Debated
Slidell Landfill, north of New Orleans, is seeking a permit from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality to expand to 48 acres and to increase its height to 125 feet. Plasco Energy Group Inc. has begun construction on a commercial plasma gasification plant in the City of Ottawa, Ontario. The facility will demonstrate a technology that essentially produces lightning to convert some 85 tonnes (94 tons) per day of MSW into synthetic gas. Furthermore, the entire process occurs in a sealed system that produces zero air emissions.
