MT2 assists law enforcement agencies in firing range cleanup; Completes more than a dozen projects in the past 18 months
Metals Treatment Technologies (MT2), an environmental technology firm which owns patented processes for recovering, treating and neutralizing toxic metals, announces completion of a record number of projects to help law enforcement agencies, developers and city governments eliminate the hazards associated with lead and other heavy metals in the soil of firing ranges, brownfields, mines and industrial sites.
In the past year alone, MT2 has completed cost-effective lead treatment projects at more law enforcement, military, municipal and private firing range sites around the country, effectively eliminating any hazards associated with toxic metals such as lead from bullets and other sources.
"We are providing our clients with risk reduction, EPA regulatory compliance, and significant cost savings – in addition to the peace of mind they get by knowing they have done the smart thing in terms of site maintenance," commented James M. Barthel, President and CEO of Denver-based MT2. "The nation's 10,000-plus firing ranges represent the single largest source of lead contamination, annually putting more than 160 million pounds into the environment."
The National Rifle Association and the US Environmental Protection Agency, under new guidance, recommend periodic maintenance and proper closure as essential in maintaining a safe environment and meeting regulatory requirements. MT2 has saved firing range owners more than $10 million just over the past year alone.
The projects completed in the past year include firing range environmental management initiatives for:
· Arapaho County Sheriff's Department, Highlands Ranch, CO
· Colorado State Parks, Cherry Creek State Park Firing Range, Aurora, CO
