San Jose CA Mayor Ron Gonzales has been indicted for bribery in connection with a city garbage contract with Norcal Waste (www.norcalwaste.com), despite not having accepted any money personally. The District Attorney used a rarely invoked provision of state law that permits such a charge. He alleges that Gonzales engineered a secret deal that gave control of Norcal's workforce over to the Teamsters union using taxpayer funds to reimburse Norcal for the nearly $2 million annual increase in payroll costs. Both Gonzales and Norcal emphatically deny any wrongdoing.
