Wastech Files Patents for New Collection Technology

Wastech, Inc. has announced the filing of two waste-related patents for a "Refuse Loader and a "System and Method for Refuse Routing." The patents are for a new debris collection and transportation system. Pennsylvania Totals Record Recycling Numbers

The state of Pennsylvania recycled a record 4.8 million tons of MSW in 2004, the latest year for which statistics are available. The state estimates the economic benefits of recycling at more than $113 million in materials collected and more than $259 million in avoided disposal costs, in addition to substantial gains from recycling. OSHA Fines Georgia Oil Recycler over Fatal Accident

Joe Sikes Oil Service of Jefferson, Ga. is facing a $30,400 fine after a federal investigation has determined that it was negligent in a fatal explosion at its facility. The U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration determined that the company allegedly exposed workers to safety and health hazards that contributed to a June accident that killed one worker. Republic Accelerates Stock Vesting

Republic Services Inc.'s board of directors has approved accelerating the vesting of all outstanding stock options awarded to employees effective Dec. 30, 2005. The company will take non-cash charge of about $2 million during the fourth quarter of 2005 as a result. Republic took the action anticipating changes to its compensation programs in 2006. Seventeen Companies Pay For Cleanup of New York Superfund Landfill

Seventeen companies, including Ford Motor Co., have reached a tentative deal to pay $4.7 million for dumping chemical wastes in the Ramapo Landfill in Rockland County, N.Y. Over the course of the past 23 years, the state has spent $13 million, along with the federal government, to contain the problem.
