The federal EPA has established new rules designed to reduce air pollutants from the final category of incinerators still requiring Clean Air Act regulation. The new rules apply to incinerators burning less than 35 tons per day, as well as institutional incinerators. The new rules are anticipated to reduce air pollution by about 1,900 tons per year from the approximately 250 incinerators which will fall under the new rules. The EPA has previously issued rules for all other types of incinerators.
