The California Department of Toxic Substances Control and 27 defendants have entered into a consent decree regarding the BKK Landfill in West Covina, Calif. The decree partially settles a decree the state filed against the defendants, who are required to take over the majority of the daily work at the facility. The defendants will also provide up to $5.2 million to help pay for work conducted before the defendants take over maintenance of the site. The landfills at the site accepted both hazardous and non-hazardous waste from various periods from the mid-1960s to the mid-1990s.
