Alabama Suspends All Landfill Permitting

For the second time in four years, Alabama's solid waste program has halted the permitting of new or expanded landfills. A Montgomery Circuit judge has ruled that the state's regional planning commissions are no longer required to approve proposed landfills, but did not change a state law requiring local approval. For now, the state cannot issue any new permits without local approval.
