Waste Industries Settles with DOJ Over Virginia Operations

Waste Industries has reached a settlement with the U.S. Justice Department to sell certain small-container waste hauling assets in the Norfolk, Virginia area in order to restore competition. The government had asserted that Waste Industries' 2003 purchase of assets from Allied Waste had reduced competition for collection. Waste Industries has also agreed to reduce customer contracts from five years to an initial term of no more than two years.
