The Salt Lake Valley (Utah) Solid Waste Management Facility (www.slvswmf.net) is preparing a written request to seek partnerships in order to exchange waste with the Trans-Jordan Landfill depending on available capacity. However, some local officials have expressed concern that the end result could be privatization of the facility. The Legislature has given approval to a new landfill in Tooele County, which will open this summer and be operated by Allied Waste. Salt Lake County officials believe the Tooele site could cut their waste flow by as much as 40 percent.
