In the latest of its upper management moves, Allied Waste has named former Aramark executive John J. Zillmer its new chairman and chief executive. Zillmer succeeds Charles H. Cotros, who was brought in as chairman and CEO in October after Allied split those responsibilities from the presidency, then held by Tom Van Weelden. Salt Lake County Landfill Could Be Sold To Private Interests
The Salt Lake Valley (Utah) Solid Waste Management Facility (www.slvswmf.net) is preparing a written request to seek partnerships in order to exchange waste with the Trans-Jordan Landfill depending on available capacity. However, some local officials have expressed concern that the end result could be privatization of the facility. The Legislature has given approval to a new landfill in Tooele County, which will open this summer and be operated by Allied Waste. WCA Waste Completes Four Tuck-In Acquisitions
WCA Waste has completed four tuck-in acquisitions comprising 22 trucks servicing approximately 4,500 customers; all waste collected by the companies will be disposed of in WCA Waste landfills. Assets acquired from Foster Ferguson Disposal and Proper Disposal will send waste to the Oak Grove Landfill in Arcadia, Kansas. Itec Environmental Acquires Rose Systems
Itec Environmental Group has agreed to acquire all of the issued and outstanding stock of Rose Waste Systems, Inc. of San Carlos, Calif. Rose Waste is an 18-year-old engineering and sales company offering recycling, refuse and scrap handling equipment. Itec officials expect the merger will improve Itec's standing in the U.S. plastic container industry, and will aid in Itec's acquisition of large quantities of PET and HDPE plastic. Rio De Janeiro Trash Fleet Switches To Ethanol-Diesel Fuel
O2Diesel Corp. has announced that Comlurb, a municipally owned collection company serving Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, has begun using O2Diesel's proprietary ethanol-diesel fuel blend, known as O2Diesel, in its fleet.
