The state of New Jersey could file suit against Ciba Specialty Chemicals Corp. (www.cibasc.com) if the company does not agree to remove more than 30,000 drums from a landfill on its property in Toms River, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection (www.state.nj.us/dep). Local officials have sought for years to have the drums removed from the property. More than 47,000 drums were removed from an unlined landfill at the site last year, but Ciba officials maintain that the drums in the lined landfill are safely contained.
