Former Livingston Parish Council member Robert Ringo has admitted to the U.S. Attorney's Office that he accepted a $17,000 cash bribe from a local businessman in 2000 to transfer a landfill permit for the Woodside Landfill. In 2000, the council voted 5-4 to transfer the parish's landfill permit to Waste Management (www.wm.com) in exchange for royalties on the facility's operation. Parish attorneys are not yet certain whether Ringo's admission renders the transfer vote null and void.
