The Peoples' Republic of China is preparing to initiate a multi-year environmental cleanup in preparation for the Olympics in Beijing in 2008. In addition to its ongoing political and social problems, China faces significant environmental challenges from overpopulation, industrialization, and overuse of natural resources.
