Honolulu Landfill Selection Process Draws Criticism

The city of Honolulu, Hawaii has selected a site for its new landfill, but has received significant criticism for the method of selection and the narrow timeframe for decision-making. The city council is trying to meet a Dec. 1 deadline to choose a new site. The 23-acre plot adjacent to the city's H-Power incinerator was chosen without notification of local businesses, critics charge, and was not on a list of 5 preferred sites that underwent a year of scrutiny.
