Bill To Close Illinois Hospital Incinerators Progresses

An amendment mandating the closure of all hospital incinerators in Illinois has passed the first stages of the state's legislative process, one month after Evanston Hospital became the first facility in the state to comply with Gov. Rod Blagojevich's call for voluntary decommissioning of such units. Illinois State Sen. Jeff Schoenberg (D-Evanston) sponsored the amendment, whose details are still being worked out with the Illinois EPA and hospital industry officials.
