Waste Services Inc. has reported that its third-quarter losses narrowed as U.S. acquisitions boosted the Canadian company's revenue. The quarterly loss declined to $5.7 million, or 6 cents per share, from a loss of 7.1 million, or $1.06 per share in the same period last year. The company noted that last year's per-share loss was greater because of dividends paid. Income rose to $15.4 million from $3 million, and revenue nearly tripled, jumping to $94.6 million from $34.7 million, with U.S. acquisitions contributing a large chunk of sales. During the quarter, Waste Services initiated operations at landfill and transfer stations in the Phoenix and Houston areas.
