The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (www.osha.gov) will honor the City of Alexandria (Virginia) and the County of Arlington's 975 ton-per-day waste-to-energy facility, operated by Covanta Energy Corporation (www.covantaenergy.com), with a "STAR" designation, the agency's highest honor given to power generating facilities for outstanding health and safety practices. The designation is given to less than one percent of all worksites in the United States and comes following participation in OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program. Covanta Alexandria/Arlington is the third facility within Covanta's network of WTE facilities to achieve VPP STAR recognition.
