The city of San Diego (www.sannet.gov) has been investigating a contract it held for Sukut Construction (www.sukut.com) to install liners at the Miramar Landfill (www.sandiego.gov/environmental-services/miramar). According to a local news station, Sukut was paid more than $13 million over the past nine years for the work, but city workers claim they performed some of the work. Both Sukut and city environment officials deny the charge, but San Diego found that the company used the city's bulldozers for grading, and that $60,000 worth of work was performed with city equipment and workers.
