Hawaii Waste Could Head To Pacific Northwest

Landfills in Idaho and Washington State are seeking to barge Honolulu's waste to their landfills. Idaho Waste Systems of Boise, Id (www.idahowaste.com). And Pacific Rim Environmental Resources of Seattle (www.rossmgt.com/pacific/pacific.htm) have proposed shipping shrink-wrapped waste across the ocean. The island of Oahu produces about 1.6 million tons of MSW per year where about 300,000 tons is landfilled.
