Virginia Hospitals Win Praise For Waste Reduction Efforts
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the federal EPA, and other state agencies have praised Virginia healthcare facilities that are voluntarily reducing pollution and waste in the Virginia Hospitals for a Healthy Environment program. The program helps hospitals work with the state to develop plans to properly manage and dispose of waste and pollutants, and more than 50 facilities have joined. Grace Settles Litigation With Honeywell Over Jersey Contamination
W.R. Grace & Co. has settled its litigation with Honeywell International over contamination of Grace-owned property in Jersey City, N.J. Grace will transfer the 32-acre property to Honeywell for full indemnification and $62.5 million. The property was acquired by a Grace subsidiary in 1981 and tainted with approximately 1.5 million tons of chromium from a facility owned by a Honeywell predecessor. Pennsylvania Announces $2.6 Million In Recycling Grants
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has announced $2.6 million in performance grants to 73 Pennsylvania localities for their recycling work in 2002. Overall, DEP has awarded 738 recycling performance grants totaling almost $18 million for their recycling work in 2002.
