The Niagara County (N.Y.) Legislature has asked the state to conduct a full environmental impact assessment before CWM Chemical Services (www.wm.com) can expand its hazardous waste landfill in Lewiston. CWM has asked the state Health Department (www.health.state.ny.us) to rescind its 1972 and 1974 orders barring work at the 614-acre Lake Ontario Ordnance Works site. The property is the burial site of nuclear waste from the Manhattan Project dating back to World War II.
