Pacific Gas & Electric of San Francisco, a unit of PG&E Corp. (NYSE: PCG) has reported that it has lost track of three pieces of spent nuclear fuel last used in the late 1960s. The nuclear fuel was from the now-closed Humboldt Bay nuclear plant near Eureka. The missing fuel in question weighs a total of four pounds. Company officials believe it is unlikely that anyone removed the material maliciously or by mistake. The most likely scenario is that the material was shipped off-site in a cleanup. The facility operated from 1963 to 1976, and no fuel has been shipped off-site since 1974.
