Waste Management will close its two incinerators in Juneau, Alaska and rely entirely on its landfill for disposal. Company officials said the incinerators have reached the end of their 20-year usable life, and are too expensive to replace. The landfill now has an estimated 30 years of capacity. Juneau officials are working to increase the number of residents recycling-currently pegged at 5 percent-by rolling out education campaigns.
