Maryland Company Seeks To Operate Landfill With Oklahoma Tribe

The Halle Companies of Silver Spring, Md. is hoping to work with the Delaware Nation Indian tribe of Anadarko, Oklahoma to build a construction landfill in Anne Arundel County, Md. The tribe could collect at least $1.4 million from the arrangement. However, state and local officials contend the agreement is an attempt to avoid both zoning and environmental laws. Halle Companies would turn over the property to the Delaware Nation, which would pay nothing for the land; the two entities would jointly own the landfill business.
