Oregon Fines Army For Chemical Incinerator Problems

The state of Oregon has fined the Umatilla Chemical Depot $184,800 for a computer error that kept two safety systems offline during tests last year. The Army and its contractor, Washington Demilitarization Co., can appeal the fine against the chemical weapons incinerator. The depot will destroy 3,717 tons of Army nerve agents and mustard gas over the next several years.
