The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has denied a permit to Complex Environmental Inc. to develop a 1,031-acre landfill in Taliaferro County. Last October, Taliaferro's three commissioners spent several hours in jail for refusing to comply with a judge's order to sign a letter saying the landfill met county zoning regulations. The company plans to appeal.
