Shreveport Landfill Expansion Plans Currently On Hold

Date: February 19, 2004

Plans to expand Shreveport, Louisiana's Woolworth Road Landfill by another 660-plus acres have stalled because the $2.8 million asking price is more than state law permits the city to spend. The state forbids Shreveport from spending more than the assessed value on the property, a figure that would put the price at $2 million. The acquisition would more than double the size of the landfill and keep it open for decades; it is currently expected to close in 2021.
