Florida Files Suit Over Refinery Cleanup

The state of Florida has filed suit to recover more than $12 million in environmental cleanup costs from the operators of the now-defunct St. Marks refinery in Leon County. The state's Department of Environmental Protection filed the suit filed with the Leon County Circuit Court against American International Petroleum Corp. (OTC: AIPN.PK), St Marks Refinery Inc. and Seminole Refining Corp. According to the suit, asphalt, pentachlorophenol and petroleum products were stored at the site in northern Florida for fifty years, and oil lagoons and tar pits had contaminated nearby waterways, wetlands and soils.
