The Arkansas Supreme Court has upheld a decision that will permit the incineration of cf chemical weapons at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. The incineration is scheduled to begin in April 2004, according to Washington Demilitarization Co., which constructed and will operate the incinerator. The Arkansas News reported that the state Supreme Court upheld a 2000 decision by the Arkansas Pollution Control and Energy Commission that issued permits for the incinerator. Opponents had challenged the permits in Jefferson County Circuit Court, contending that the incineration would release harmful contaminants into the atmosphere.
