The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has warned Munster officials that they have not yet proven there is sufficient financial stability to ensure the proper post-closure care of the town's landfill, scheduled to close next spring. Town officials contend that they have more than enough money to cover the closure. The town is working on plans to redevelop the landfill into a bike trail and golf course, at an estimated total cost of about $3 million.
