Tucson Rejects Plans For Landfill Tip Fee Cuts

During its deliberations to balance a $43 million shortfall in the coming year's budget, the Tucson City Council has rejected a plan to cut commercial landfill charges aimed at luring more waste to the Los Reales Landfill and $1.2 million in extra cash to the city. The proposal would have lowered landfill fees to private haulers, which would have in turn brought more waste to the landfill and increased revenue for the city. But city council officials said it was a shortsighted plan that would unduly increase demands on landfill space.
